PEL by Jasper Morrison

In some versions, the legs in Pollak’s chair were connected on the ground level by straight rails from the front side, while Morrison keeps the curvy edges on both ends. As the essential feature of all RP series, the back of the chair comes straight at first, then gets angled backward. Fixing details and selvedged canvas fabric matches the weave and weight of the original.

This in-and-outdoor icon is back in the game to pass over many more decades thanks to the well-studied form, quality material, and details implemented by Morrison in order to create a refined and still influential result.

Jasper Morrison

British product designer Jasper Morrison is one of the pioneering masters of the past few decades. Though his main focus has been on chairs, he simultaneously generated multiple outcomes; from kitchen products to lighting, from electronics to accessories. His approach promotes reduced, yet still effectively moving designs and doesn’t allow for a glossy, pretentious attitude. He is known for the term Super Normal, of which he has initiated with Naoto Fukasawa, aiming to enhance a good design that can be discrete but never unappreciated.

Practical Equipment LTD

As one of the leading manufacturers of modernist tubular steel furniture in Britain, Practical Equipment LTD (PEL) has introduced the design world the notion of “functional practicality” through mass-produced stackable chairs. The focus has been on producing simple, elegant, and long-lasting furniture for public areas such as cafes and restaurants, schools, hospitals, church halls, and businesses, rather than solely creating ground-breaking modernist pieces.

Working with many renowned names such as Oliver Bernard, Bruno Pollak, Serge Chermayeff, and Wells Coates, they manufactured a manifold of furniture ranging from chairs to tables, trolleys to bed frames.
